Make what you need with what you don't need, make what you need with what you don't need

Utilization of environmental materials and food waste

The "free blend method", a technology that can mix up to 80% of the target material using a plastic raw material as the base resin, can utilize various materials as the target material.
As the target material, we will introduce the food waste that has been disposed of by focusing on it.

Actual conditions of waste products by local production

Food-based waste that is disposed of as a matter of course

Most food products have both a part to be used and a part to be discarded, and the free blend method has made it possible to utilize the part that was previously taken for granted to be discarded as a material.
For example, rice husks that are disposed of in rice cultivation, and oysters and scallops that are sold as peeled meat. Furthermore, aren't eggshells, which are indispensable for cooking and making sweets, disposed of as a matter of course?

Waste amount comparable to the amount eaten

In addition, the amount of waste, such as non-standard vegetables, processed foods, and expired foods, which is comparable to the amount eaten, may have been "natural" until now.
If you look at these, you can see how much the disposal amount was.
Rice husks are 1.8 million tons, oyster shells are 170,000 tons, eggshells are 150,000 tons, wheat bran is 1.27 million tons, lees is 560,000 tons, etc.
There are many parts of familiar foods called "edible parts", and I dared to focus on the reality that they are discarded.

Food waste disposal process

What kind of process is the food waste disposal process now?
Let's bring this point to light.

First of all, when a farmer ships to the market, items that do not meet the standards that can be shipped due to bending or scratches, color or size problems, etc. are called non-standard products, and most of them are discarded. increase.
Its disposal rate is said to reach about 40% of production .

These food wastes are intermediately treated by waste disposal companies, and some of them are handed over to recycling companies for use as fertilizers and feeds.
At the same time, items that cannot be used as fertilizer or feed are incinerated by the final disposal company.
Also, it should be remembered that in many parts of the world, besides incineration, it is landfilled.

CO2 is emitted even if it is buried or burned.

It is a fact that a large amount of CO2 is always generated in the transportation of waste and incineration in order to dispose of it.
Furthermore, methane gas generated during landfill is said to have a greenhouse effect about 25 times that of CO2, and food waste can be said to have a tremendous impact on the environment in every respect.

From the above, in order to realize CO2 reduction, it is necessary to review the "past natural" that was one-way as waste.

We have seriously embodied "use without throwing away".

How to make plastic

Overturned the concept of mixing with plastic

In the conventional plastic manufacturing method, even if there is a request to mix a material other than plastic with the plastic raw material, the limit value of pellets has been regarded as the limit of compounding.
In other words, the concept of mixing different materials with plastic raw materials has existed in the past.

Daiichi Seikosha has completely overturned this concept.
Instead of mixing different materials with plastic raw materials, we set the material we wanted to mix as a clear target material, and asked the plastic raw material to play the role of a connecting material.

In other words, he denied the manufacturing method that was particular about the shape of pellets.
As a result, we brought to market hybrid raw materials with reduced target materials by up to 80% and plastic raw materials by 20% .

In this way, in order to realize functions such as glass fiber blending that realizes high strength, metal blending that creates a feeling of weight and luxury, pottery blending with a unique luster and texture, and copper powder blending that has strong sterilizing performance of copper. "Functional combination" was released one after another to the world.

This was a trigger to change the common sense of plastics.

Realization of 20% plastic and 80% environmental material

Now that "SDGs" have become a universal theme such as reduction of environmental load and greenhouse gas, we should be aware of the problem of manufacturing using 100% plastic raw materials.
Plastic can sufficiently connect different materials with a volume of 20%.

Therefore, Daiichi Seikosha recommends that environmental materials and food waste be used as target materials.
By realizing a blend of 20% plastic and 80% environmental materials, it is possible to change the past of making products from 100% plastic raw materials.

This results in overwhelming plastic weight reduction.
Furthermore, since the waste treatment materials are used as raw materials as they are, the disposal method itself, which could only be solved by incineration or landfill, will change significantly.

Local production for local consumption

Encounter with waste materials from all over the country

This technology, which uses food waste, will be announced at exhibitions and lectures.
At that time, we received a great response from local governments all over the country.
The contents are paddy shells from Niigata and Toyama prefectures, oysters from Hiroshima and Okayama prefectures, scallop shells from Aomori prefecture, peanut shells from Chiba prefecture, eggshells used for castella from Nagasaki prefecture, and Shizuoka prefecture. We started with non-standard tea leaves from Hokkaido and food-related waste materials such as potatoes that were shipped from Hokkaido, and at the end of last year we received a request for a compounding test of light stones washed ashore from Okinawa and Kagoshima prefectures.
In each case, all the content was consulted as a clue to the solution of the disposal problem that each local government has.

Succeeded in developing new raw materials utilizing environmental materials

After obtaining these materials from all over the country, we decided that they could be fully utilized as the target material by blending them into plastic through the powder processing process.
The new raw material that was born there
MomiPlas containing up to 70% rice husks
Shell Plas containing up to 70% oyster shells
Egg Plas containing up to 70% eggshell
Pumice Rock Plas containing up to 70% pumice.
Basic physical properties and environmental measurements were carried out for each, and it was decided to make its debut as a raw material for commercialization.
"Ballpoint pen," "pencil," "flowerpot," and "pen case" that were born from waste materials.
"Cutlery such as spoons and forks" "hangers" etc.
It was around this time that we planned new initiatives with each local government to develop new local production for local consumption.
In response to a request from local children to use products made from local waste materials to learn the importance of protecting the environment, we asked 62 local governments nationwide to give each product the name of the local government and waste materials. I put the name of and distributed it.

Succeeded in developing new raw materials utilizing environmental materials

During this time, our representative continued to teach at the elementary school as an environmental learning teacher. One day, there is a word that one of the boys asked.

That is the significance of all employees working on this initiative.
that is,,,
The word was, "Why didn't you use waste materials as raw materials sooner?"
It was the moment when all employees renewed their awareness that the action to protect the environment was the necessary "adult responsibility" to baton touch the earth to the child of the child of the child.

Adult responsibility

Future manufacturing

We were able to prove that we can actually make products that utilize all kinds of food-based waste materials as raw materials.

Isn't it necessary for everyone involved in the problem to work as one as a concrete measure that can solve the environmental problems facing the world now?
Beyond the framework of Daiichi Seikosha, it is time for adults who are in the middle of economic activities to seriously create products from raw materials that can be converted to 100% plastic and review their daily lives full of plastic.
I will dare to propose the problem.
